Rotoscoping Dennis

Rotoscoping Dennis

Sounds Dirty doesn’t it?

I’m possibly going to be working on a very short animation for an online learning flash piece and it was suggested the style be in the “Charles Schwab” / “Scanner Darkley” style, otherwise known as Rotoscope. Rotoscoping is an animation technique in which animators trace over live-action film movement, frame by frame, for use in animated films. The technique was invented by Max Fleischer

To do a test run  to see how long this might take me, I took some old footage of a friend of mine in a silly outfit and went frame by frame to draw out the images in flash. I didn’t get a chance to color it, as this would have taken almost 4 to 5 times as long. This animated short took me approximately 3 hours.

yep. it’s a lot of work.
